Favorite weather websites - Hurricane Season

Looking up, just now. May 14, 2020, 11:26 AM

This is a good time to share a few weather links. All of the links in this post are also listed on the right side of this website.

Tropical Tidbits - this is the place I go to stay abreast of tropical storms and hurricanes. Levi Cowan's knowledge is respected and shared broadly. His focus is on Atlantic hurricanes; he's located in Tallahassee, FL. He posts voice updates about active tropical disturbances.

Weather Spark - charts about averages such as rainfall (for anywhere in the world). Here is a rainfall chart for Bradenton.

Learn Your Level - For Hurricanes, Wildewood Springs' evacuation level is D (green). The instruction is to listen to our local authorities for evacuation notices.

Hurricane Preparedness Manual - Manatee County (cover of the manual)

Tropical Storm Watch for July 31, 2017

Yesterday (July 30, 2017) at Anna Maria Island beach, Pine Street

7:44 AM
I just checked the weather. Surprise! Bradenton and Anna Maria Island (the beach pictured) have a tropical storm watch. I walked outside to check the clouds and characteristic fast movement across the sky. The parking lot has drained from the night rains. The pond is full. I'm glad that our trees and palms have been trimmed. That makes for less cleanup. Most rain will come later this morning as the system moves across the state. (I'll post more photos later.)
