A bed of Blanketflower blooms

This new bed of Gaillardia flowers is so full right now that it looks like flag-waving for the holiday.

Gaillardia or Blanketflower is a virtually carefree plant. (Unless you count my occasional walks in the evening to cut off the spent blooms to encourage more flowering.) The blooms are daisy-like of variations in orange, red and yellow and is called Blanketflower due to its ability to cover an area with itself. It is self-seeding and in our area acts as a perennial. It's a perfect native to Florida plant choice for full sun, sandy (or not-great-soil) areas. I could see a bed of these by the tennis court as we enter our neighborhood off 34th Street.

I love this video about the Gaillardia.
