Many neighbors wake early enough to see the nocturnal river otters living in Wildewood IIA. Until now, our sightings are joyful stories without proof. Now, thanks to Betty Pander, we have a photo. When I asked Betty if she had a name, she said, "How about Oscar?" This photo is Oscar walking behind her unit.
A couple times I've seen two otters hanging out on the bank behind our place and several times swimming (fast) in the pond. The Coomers report seeing five otters at a time from their back porch.
Interested in learning more about river otters? Mote Aquarium located at the south end of Longboat Key rescued two baby otters and now they live in a new exhibit.

Betty just sent a photo of Oscar with a friend. Betty says maybe it's "Olivia." (Otters are monogamous so maybe this is Oscar's partner.)
