So, today I noticed a Great Egret outside. It's an everyday visitor in Wildewood. A usual view is Egret posed in stillness near or in the pond, patiently waiting to lunge for its fish lunch.
I sat down and just watched.
And, then I saw Great Egret do something I hadn't noticed before. It waded into the water, bent down—seemingly sitting and soaking. I went inside to get my camera and then clicked for you.
Seeing Egret soak reminded me of an incredible video with this message, "You think this is just another day in your life. It's not just another day. It's the one day that is given to you—today." The Egret reminded me that birds I've seen so many times before offer unique, never-before and never-again moments. I guess the benefit of having a sitting practice* is marveling in Egret like this.
*Author Jon Young (What the Robin Knows) suggests finding a sit spot to watch birds. He recommends spending time in that spot everyday as a way to see and come to know birds.
